The country's delegation selected for the 49th Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme, 49th SSEAYP, must take advantage of every opportunity, share views and establish lasting friendships and networks with youth from ASEAN Member States and Japan. According to the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, the experience is expected to broaden their mindset and strengthen their ability to contribute effectively to society. Speaking at the National Flag Handover Ceremony to the Brunei Darussalam Delegation to the 49th SSEAYP, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad stated that participation in international youth programmes such as SSEAYP is in line with the country's youth development agenda. As Ambassadors, the delegation must maintain high standards of discipline, integrity and conduct at all times. The ceremony took place on 12th January afternoon at Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
The National Flag was handed over to Awang Ibrahim bin Sabli, Head of the National Delegation to the 49th SSEAYP, followed by the handover of flight tickets by MIURA Keiko, Deputy Head of Mission and Chancellor at the Embassy of Japan in the country. The programme, among others, aims to promote friendship and mutual understanding among the youth of Japan and ASEAN member countries.
